Recalled Toys for Christmas

As we know from last year there are toys which get recalled. If you are anything like I am you are a bargin hunter. I love to buy toys which are on sale for the holidays. This makes my shopping budget stretch further which means that I can buy more and more. The trouble with this is that some stores try to sell recalled items at a discount rather then removing them from their shelves. I think that checking what has been recalled is important before you head out shopping. Here are some great sites to examine what has been recalled and for what.

  1. US Consumer Product Safety Commission: This is the site from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. It covers all of the recently recalled toys in an easy to follow format. I would think that this site has the most valid information given the source.
  2. Parents.com has a pretty comprehensive list of items that were recalled in 2008. It is also a nice site to look around and explore.

Both of these sites offer a comprehensive list of what not to buy while you are shopping this holiday season. After last year I think that it is important to note the some of the toys on the list are there because they contain high amounts of lead. I personally would like to avoid poisoning my children and assume that you would like to do the same!

Webkinz is Letting Me Down

play games to get Kinz Cash to buy things for ...

While I am sad to admit it I play in Webkinz World. My kids have more money in Webkinz World then they could ever spend! I find it fun to play. Many of the games are the same games that you find elsewhere… so why not play for the kids. I love to play Where’s Wacky. It is a great memory game that keeps me on my toes. It also makes the kids try and try to beet my high score. Of course they have not done it yet, but it does keep the fun in it.

The trouble is lately Webkinz will either not load at all or once it does the games are not playing up to speed. This has been quite disappointing. During nap time I come to the computer and say ok… I will allow myself one quick game of Where’s Wacky, then I will fold the laundry. Every time for about a month now that I have done this the site does not load or work properly. While I can handle the disappointment the kids are not as mature. They are mad! With all of the money that Webkinz brings in for Ganz one would think that they could afford to have their system working properly.

COME ON WEBKINZ… QUIT LETTING US ALL DOWN!!

69 Days of Christmas

Father Christmas // Santa Claus // Père Noël

So here we are with only 69 days left until Christmas. At this point I want to get an idea of what the kids want this year. I think that accessing what they want and what are priorities is an important thing to do! Abigail has said that she is going to ask Santa for a Wii. Because I know that they will be getting harder and harder to find as we get closer to the season I think this should be near the top of my list.

Emma has not asked for anything. She is a challenge at Christmas. Her birthday is at the end of November so it is had to choose what she wants for what! I think that for her birthday she will like the new Barbie movie. Perhaps the doll for Christmas. She also may want some American Girl Doll stuff. I know this would be a fine hit for either of them.

The crime of it is that none of my Children NEED anything. Year after year we get more and more toys in this house. We live in a VERY small house! We can not handle one more doll, Barbie, play food, dress-up or anything. I am sure that we are not alone. This year because I have some time to plan we are going to have a Thanksgiving Give Away.

Rules of the Thanksgiving Give Away:

1. Each child must choose at least 10 toys that are in good shape that they do not play with anymore.

2. These toys have to be in good shape. If I find one that is not I will throw it out and they will have to try again.

3. The kids will come with me to bring their chosen toys to the GoodWill. This will show them that we should give back!

All of this will then make room for new toys and treasures. I think that cleaning out the old and making room for the new is not only a good lesson but it will teach them that it is ok to let things go. I think that this is an important lesson. So many people have trouble getting rid of this. I am included in that which is why I want to teach my children that it is ok. It is reusing as part of reduce, recycle and reuse. I think all in all we will leave with a great lesson and give another child a toy which they may not be able to afford otherwise.

Webkinz New Pets

Webkinz

Webkinz is at it again! They have a few new pets for your little one to adopt. Abigail already brought home the new dolphin. It travels in a little bubble when it is not in a water room. She has been quite impressed with it. It was hard for her to pick though. She thought about the clown fish and the blue tiger fish but the dolphin won! There are other new Webkinz to be brought home. I personally like the dainty hummingbird but there are still others to pick from. Emma keeps begging for the new pink dog but I am sure that she would settle for the white one if we brought one home. The porcupine and buffalo would also be a welcomed friend. It will be hard for Emma to pick which one to bring home next.
