Well I know that I have not posted my progress in the weight loss area recently. That is because there has not been progress. I have actually had a summer of regression! I hate to have to admit it but it is the truth. I have GAINED 26 of my 36 lost pounds back. I am back to feeling depressed, tired, and worst of all FAT! So now is the time to do something! I have been thinking about going back to weight watchers but have decided that I was doing well with my own program. My own program also is free! I have spent the past few weeks thinking of a way to keep my motivation up. A way to assure that I stick to the journey of losing weight. I know that there are a few things I need to do in order to be successful.
- Rember why I began this weight loss journey: I think that it is important for me to look back at my earlier posts and see why I decided to lose weight in the first place.
- Evaluate my portions: I think that examining how much I am eating will be a great first step in getting back into the weight loss groove.
- Get active: This is one thing that I know helps a great deal. Getting out and getting moving is a vital component to any weight loss diet.
- Stop drinking Soda: I know that this sounds silly to those who know me. I ONLY drink Diet Coke. The trouble is the carbonation. It expands your stomach which means you have to eat more to feel full. The trouble is that I find it to be quite addicting.
- Get family on board: When I began my weight loss journey I somehow was able to get our extended family on board. It was nice that Sunday dinners were always healthy and that we were there to support one another. Getting everyone involved again is an important step for MY success. I need people to talk to and to remind me that I am doing well. It is just the type of person I am!
- Make a Shopping List: I know that I do better when I make a list of specific foods I need to buy at the grocery store. This technique helps me to avoid things such as ice cream and other sweets as well. I also need to remember not to go to the store hungry! That always presents a problem.
In my head I know that there are the first steps to a healthier life. I need to get my head into it before I will be a success. I did go for a walk yesterday which was quite helpful! I am thinking about a hike this weekend which should kick off eating healthier. Who can exercise and then eat badly?

Oh Becca…I can so totally relate!! Glad to hear that you are back on track and have a plan. I hopped back on the wagon a couple of weeks ago and have lost about 5-6 pounds already! Here are my thoughts…
-Set an activity goal. I think I might try the Couch to 5k thing. If you wanted, we could be buddies and encourage each other along the way?
-I totally agree about the soda thing. I bought two of those metal water bottles and have one with water and one with water flavored with crystal light (they have single portion ones now). I swear I drink so much more water now! They go with me everywhere and since it is there….I drink it!
-I am doing WW, but at home. I am also using the Cinch stuff from Shaklee. They have meal bars and shakes that are 5 points and I am surprising full afterward and actually stay full longer. They also have snack bars that are two points (way more filling than my fiber one bars). They all have an amino acid (i think) that helps with building muscle. There are other products with it, but I don’t use them because I am nursing. I think more than anything it helped me shake things up a little and I am less hungry than I was before.
My therapist tells me that I have to love my body now. I have a really hard time with that, but then I will find myself playing with my son and my husband taking video and I don’t care that I am this big blob of a mess, because we are recording our memories with our son. Before? I would have handed my son to my husband and I would have taken the pictures. So I guess I am making progress.
This weight loss journey is a tough one and I guess I just want you to know that you are not alone in it.
Hugs to you!

Hi Rebecca, I need to get help I am not very motivated these days and frankly I want to eat sweets and I have been in that mode for the last 3-4 weeks. Not good when you really need to lose weight.
So I need to lay out a plan and to set up menus for the next few weeks perhaps if I go that structured plan I will get in the groove. What do you think?
linda
Mommy C I think that your therapist is right that you have to love your body. the trouble is that my body HURTS. I have spent most of my life overweight. It is not the dislike of my body it is the health aspect. I have three little girls who need their mother to live for a long time.
I am always amazed at how hard it is to drop the pounds but how easy it is to gain it back. I was doing quite well a few months ago and then summer came and ruined it! Between parties every weekend and three vacations it is just a battle. Now that school has started again and there is only one little one left at home I really think that it will be easier to be successful again!
I would love a buddy! I always do better when I can talk it all out and have someone listening. So from this day forward we will make a pact… let’s do it!
Becca
Linda I think that setting up menus work so well. I know that it takes a long time to do but once it is in place it is so effective. I think that standing in front of the fridge wondering what to eat is a huge downfall. It really does not help… and I know that you often have some toast while you are waiting! So I think 4 weeks of menus and shopping lists saved in the computer is a great technique. I know that you do better when things are simplified. Oh… am I supposed to make the menus and give them to you? Perhaps there is something you are hinting to here that I am missing?
Becca
I totally agree about the soda. It’s important to remember that the Food Pyramid was not created for “weight loss”, it was created as a “general nutrition guide” to maintain average health. Congratulations!!

Hi and nice to meet you too, I am glad that you liked my site and want to make sure you come back http://www.socalledmom.com
First of all I know exactly what you mean, I fell of the bandwagon and have a need to get back on. I started by losing 6 pounds and after a vacation I gained 10 back. Yo-Yo dieting sucks, just make sure you include foods that encourage your body to lose weight, get active, and exercise. Those things are easier said then done but I lost a lot of weight in a sort period of time with eating SELECT healthy foods and keeping some of the things that I still love. It’s all about proportions. If you like the TASTE of soda you should try getting a natural fruit juice and putting tonic water in it. It made me feel like I had that REWARD of taste yet it had all natural sugars which is far better than the kind you find in commercial brands. I hope you find away back to your goals as well as myself
Great tips, I have always had problems staying on the bandwagon. It’s so easy to slip back into your old eating habits. Great post and thanks again.
Hi all you beautiful women… Just make forward momentum no matter how small or big. just keep inching forward!
