You Want Me to Put that Where?

OK I know… it is not what you are thinking.  It is so much cleaner and better then what you are thinking.  This is a G rated site you know.

About a month ago my mother in law had advised me to put Vicks Vapor rub on little Analiese’s feet.  I had though that she was nuts!  Why would I put Vick’s on my babies feet?  So the next day my mother in law emails me an article on how putting vicks on a babies feet is actually better for the baby then putting it on their chest.  I laughed and forwarded it all of my friends.  I was thinking that they would also find the whole thing quite funny!

A few days later a saw one of the friends that I had emailed the article to in the Mall.  She was so happy and excited.  She had told me that her daughter had been sick with a cough for about a week.  She had said that the poor baby had not even been able to sleep laying down so my friend had been holding he all night long!   Then she went on to tell me something quite shocking.  She tried the Vick’s on the feet solution out of sheer desperation and IT WORKED!  She was thanking me profusely.  I had to come clean and let her know that it was my mother in law who had figured it all out!

I have not had a sick child since my mother in law mentioned the Vicks on the feet trick.  I am anxious to try it on someone… Darn that flu shot! I would love to hear who out there has tried it.

Awesome! I just sent a link to this post to one of my friends whose daughter hasn’t been able to kick her cough. Fingers crossed…

  2. OMG! My grandmother just told me about the Vicks on the feet trick last night. My son had a huge coughing fit, so I tried it. Totally worked. It was like magic.

  3. Becca says:

CK I hear it works like a dream! I hope that she comes back and tells me how it works for her!

Ashlie-Mommycosm I am so glad to hear that it does work. I really did think that she was nuts! It is a good thing that she loves me I guess!

I have to say, sounded pretty nutty to me! But with all the positive things I’m hearing I’m going to have to give it a try. Thanks or posting this! When they’re coughing so hard like that at night I’ll usually try just about anything… and if this actually works?! Genius!

  6. Becca says:

KathyB I am with you! I hate when they are coughing all night and you feel as if there is nothing to do about it. It is so nice to have something that we can do. Especially since you can not find baby cough medicine anymore. What a great solution!

I have not tried that – or heard of it for that matter. Do you put the socks on afterward?

  8. K says:

I’ll keep this in mind. I’ll give anything within reason a try when my kid sick (it’s awful).

I’m guessing you would like more visitors and comments since you left me such a nice comment to please visit you. You should check The Secret Is The Sauce (there’s a link on my blog or you can google it). It’s an online community of bloggers who support each other by commenting. I’ve found lots of my bloggy friends that way.

  9. I heard about this a few years ago on parenting forum. I was also hesitant but tried it and it works! My kids start cough ing bad with an ear infection. If I use this and it does not work they go to the doctor for ear infection and if it helps with the cough then I know their ears are fine! THis has actually helped me save $$ on dr bills.

Also I was really sick and had to work I put it all over my feet before work and it worked wonderfully on me too. I highly recommend it!

Thank you for stopping by for WW.

  10. Julia says:

I have totally used this one and it does work. Strange what receptors in the feet will do.

  13. Shannon says:

This is how I apply it to myself too. Your feet absorb more than you think.

  14. Cupcake says:

Wonder if this works on adults? I have a nasty cough right now… i might try this tonight.. every time I put the vick’s on my check it makes me worse…

  15. ali says:

Wow–I’ve never heard this tip! I’ll have to remember that!

  16. My mother-in-law believes in this as well. I am not convinced. In fact, we do not use the product at all. Might want to check out this news release on MSNBC regarding VICKS http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28628924/

  17. Becca says:

Teri I would say yes put socks on after.

  20. Rabia says:

I have tried it and it seems to work. My problem is that my cat goes nuts around Vicks, so I have to lock my kids up at night if I use it so he doesn’t attack them. And, yes, we use socks afterwards.

  25. Jill says:

I have never tried this, though I have friends who swear by it! We’re all allergic to eucalyptus around here. :)

  26. Caitlin says:

I have actually heard that too- but have never tried it! My friend puts it on her kid’s feet, puts on some clean socks, and off he goes to sleep.
    So, so odd….

  27. I had never heard of that before, but it sure makes sense! :) Next time Princess Nagger has a nagging cough, I’m going to try it! ;) Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today – I’m enjoying yours! :)

  34. Donna E says:

This is funny to me also,as I got it kinda the same way,and like you laughed, then said hey I’ve got a couple coughs and some stuffy noses I’ll give it a try! Well it did the trick and I have used it since! Much better for the wee folks than putting it on their chests where it can actually be to over powering for them and cause it’s own probs for them.I also rub a tiny bit behind neck, like base of head area but just an ever so small dot and on bottom of feet. That’s been doin the job!

  35. Donna E says:

oh and thanks for stopping by my lil’spot, your place looks great.

  36. angel says:

We totally do the vicks on the feet thing!! And LOVE it!! My 3yr old had back to back to back colds as an infant and it worked like a charm! And i have to admit that it was my mother in law that told me about it as well. AND i thought she was crazy just like you! Ha! But i finally tried it because i figured i had nothing to lose!! And i must add that i actually hope you don’t have to try it anytime soon…sick lil ones are just no fun!
