I was reading an article on http://deidrepannu.wordpress.com/ today and am feeling quite impassioned. This article is about focusing money and people in the Congo. I understand that we are a nation that has always aided other nations. I get that and I think that it is important. I just think that we could focus on us for a while.
I look at our nation as a mother. We are frequently trying to better other nations, other women and make the world a better place. We are often being a mother to the world and some parts of the world are greatful. The trouble is that just as a mother it has impacted the mother in a negative way. I know that you know what I am talking about. I am talking about the mother who takes care of her kids and forgets herself. The mother who has not had her hair cut in years. The mother who is wearing rags so that her children can be dressed to the nines! The mother who has given up everything for her children. This is America!
I just think that for a while we need to come back and think about America. We need to help the women right here in America. We need to assure that all of the people of this great nation are fed! There are so many issues here in America that need attention! I think that with our current economic state the we need to worry about our mother America! I know that there are a lot of issues in the world that need addressing. The trouble is that noone is going to come to this mothers aid. We need to assure that this mother starts to take care of itself. If this mother does not take care of itself it will fail just as any other mothers.
I am hoping that I am making my point clear. It is not that I do not think that we should help other nations. I just do not feel that that help should come at the expence of the people of this great nation. There are so many people out of a job right now, there are so many people who have no extra money for food right now, there are so many people who are loosing their homes! Come on mother America and take care of yourself!

Hi Becca…Thank you so much for your visit to my blog & your nice comments…I was almost named Jocelyn Rebecca & perhaps I would be Becca myself today…I must say, I do think it’s time to turn toward our own ailing country to help our needy…Point well taken!
Bo
Here, here! I totally agree-and as a mom-I ask myself, what is the America we are leaving our children? Debt? Values? Selfishness? I don’t know-I am trying to leave a legacy with those I can influence-my boys-this is their America one day…
Thanks for visiting my blog!
Stop on over anytime-I like how I can ask you anything…Hmmm. Thinking…Oh! Got One!
How in the world did you find my blog!!!???
Hi there! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and commenting!!
I could not agree more that there is so much we as a nation need to be doing right here on American soil!! Love your mom analogy….i would have never come up with such a clever way to address such an important subject!
I’m gonna have to go with ruby red slippers and ask how in the world you found me in the wide world that is the web??!!
Thank you so much for visiting ladies. I think that while some people think that it is bad I just feel as if it is what we need to do right now. I am so happy to see that I am not alone. As for ruby red slippers and Aubrey I discovered your sites while exploring others sites. I have a bad habit of clicking on people comments and exploring other people’s sites. It is a great way to build traffic, see what the creative people out there in blog space are doing and a great way to get your mind thinking about what to write. I hope you will come again! I really enjoyed your sites!

Bo I have to say that I love my name. I used to only let people call be Rebecca but in college there were three of us so one was Becky (which I would NEVER be), one was Rebecca, and I was Becca. I was the youngest out of the Rebecca’s in the sorority so I did not really have a choice! It has grown on me over the years. My nieces and nephews all call me Aunt Becca. So I guess I am a Becca now.

Hi Becca! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I enjoyed reading your thoughts about our great country. I agree with you that we need to do our part to build our country up and address the needs that are going on right here. I think if everyone works together to address the problems that are going on right now, our country is going to be even better. Thanks for your thoughts!
Have a super weekend!

This is a really great post and something I’ve been saying myself for a year or so. Very well written as well, it is sometimes hard to express feelings like this. We really need to take a step back, fix some of the issues here in the US. Then work on helping out other countries!
Thanks for visiting me at my side of the world.
I agree with everything you said! We do need to start taking care of our own. We are building bridges and roads in other countries and we are in a desparate need of the same things here in the United States.
May God Bless the United States of America!
Angela
Hi Becca
You have brought up some real ‘food’ for thought here. You are so right…we do have lots of needy people in our country.
But as blessed as we are, I think it is our responsibility to help those less fortunate too! So…guess I’m saying I have mixed feelings.
Thanks for your visit today! Enjoyed your blog!
Do not get me wrong until the current economic crisis I had mixed feelings as well but for a while I think that perhaps focusing on us for a while will be OK. What other nation takes care of the rest of the world before making sure it takes care of itself? I agree that it is difficult and part of me felt guilty for even writing it but I just feel we are digging ourselves into a hole while we fill holes for other people!
Becca
Angela you bring up a great point about the bridges and roads. After the bridge collapse about a year ago it was discovered that most of the bridges in NY were not up to code. Why can we not fix them?
Becca
Hey Becca!
Thanks for swinging by my place. You have a great blog! I totally agree with you on this issue. I think NOW is the time to come back to America since we are in such terrible shape. Time to start thinking of us (even if it is just for a little while).
Michelle I think that you are right in that now is the time. Not only do I think that now if the time but the time was about four years ago. Perhaps we can start now if only until we as Americans can get on more stable ground!
Back when my mother’s father was a young man, the economy was in bad shape. The government had projects that would employ people and perserve our nathional resources. That was the CCC or the Civilian Conservation Corps and that is how America built its public parks.
It is not that we are being “selfish” if we are not helping others in the world, but rather we need to be “self interested” and try to improve our country BEFORE we invest in other countries. If individuals feel that their homelands, or impoverished countries, or war-torn countries need help- then please do lend assistance by what ever contributions you can make.
