Honestly, as soon as you started the post I was like: holy cow where do I sign up?? I mean, I actually do worry that if I'm at the park w/her and she takes off running and some psycho in a van pulls up and nabs her. As far as her "freedom" well, for now, she's two. She ain't got none. And she won't until she lets MOMMY PEE IN PEACE. I know I won't keep my kids on a leash, or microchip them, but the parents that do probably feel safer than us? I have always though about whether to tell our kids about the real world out there which is not so pretty, so they know and are able to defend themselves, or wait to let them understand on their own. Its a tough qs. Good post. Thing is, whatever we may want to think, the world is not safe. The same could be said about many things such as the meningococcal vaccine... it's unlikely you'd get the disease so should you bother with the vaccine? I'm NOT disagreeing with you I just haven't figured out what my opinion is and I'm thinking out loud. Obviously the medical example is poor b/c there's risk to infect others -- it's completely different. I might have to mull this over and post back later...
