I am sure that we could all sit back and remember a time when our homes were not filled with computers. Well at least some of us can. I remember it quite well! Then when I was about 6 my brother got this thing I had never heard of for Christmas. Under the tree from Santa was a Commodore 64 COMPUTER! Now my young eyes had never seen anything like it. All I knew was that my brother was super excited! Who would have thought that in 1982 we would have a computer for “fun”?
I know that some of my younger readers cannot imagine a world without computers. It is like a world without cell phones. Or a world with out a CD or DVD player! Either way I remember the Commodore 64 in all it’s glory. I remember that when you used to turn the computer on you had to boot it. There was just a black screen that you typed magic codes into to launch specific functions. I remember my favorite game Port to Call and lemmings. The Commodore 64 was the first computer in a long line of computers and word processors in my life.
I know what you are thinking… Who cares and why is this worthy of a blog post? It so happens that last year Barry Altman purchased the Commodore trademark and is bringing the Commodore 64 back in all its glory! Well it will certainly run faster and be easier to use. Altman believes that the “all in one” feature of the Commodore 64 will be attractive to current buyers. No more CPU, keyboard and so on. Everything will be in one bundle that hooks into a monitor.
The new Commodore 64 will have a bunch of modern features. The new Commodore 64 will be equipped with built in ethernet and HDMI ports. The new Commodore 64 will also include a 1.8 ghz dual processor and the ability to add a blue ray player. Commodore 64 buyers of today will also have the new operating system Lunux. For those who are concerned about being Windows free… no need to worry! You will be able to load Windows onto the new Commodore 64!
At the end of April the new Commodore 64 will hit the streets. The price tag will vary between $200-$900 which is a fair cost for a computer these days! It is important to know that the new Commodore 64 will look just like your old one, with some small adjustments. So be sure and be on the look out for the all new and improved Commodore 64!
